If I make people smile on this sin-cursed earth, where there’s little mirth, I will not have lived in vain Raining Raining pitchforks with old maids for handles Pitchforks with old maids all day Raining pitchforks with old maids for handles Pitchforks with old maids all day

To the Sea 06:11
Tangled vines, uneven pines, Forests nowhere to see... Boulders towered over, boulders towered over, boulders tower over me in my dreams. Sometimes, it seems harder. It seems harder for me. But, sometimes, it seems harder. It seems harder for me than for you I wake to many a bright and clear morning Turned to another dark and dreary day. Rain that’s more a drizzle, coldness with no hope of sun So I bike down to the water, Throw my worries in, Leave 'em to the moaning of the sea. Sometimes, it seems harder. It seems harder for me. And, sometimes, it seems harder. It seems harder for me than for you. The ocean, deep and wide, tells me I can’t hide all these fears in the foam. Waves tease, lick my feet. Only fisherman out, while I wish I were back home. City, sleep. And I'll sing my thoughts to the sea. And sometimes, it seems harder, It seems harder for me. But, sometimes, it seems harder It seems harder for you than for me. Sinking away slowly, sinking away slowly Sinking away, sinking away With time, thoughts slip away

Nathan killed the bell cow and fed the dogs the liver
And now we’re out of meat and we’ll hang the dogs forever.
We’ll hang the dogs forever, we’ll hang the dogs forever,
And now we’re out of meat and we’ll hang the dogs forever.

Oh the hawk shoots the buzzard and the buzzard shoots the crow
And we’ll wander through Blythe canyon and kill the buffalo
. We’ll kill the buffalo, we’ll kill the buffalo,
And we’ll wander through Blythe canyon and kill the buffalo

. Oh the maggots and the skippers, they do grow so very bold.
Been saving up your buttermilk, seven years old
. Seven years old, seven years old
, Been saving up your buttermilk, seven years old.

I love the way the sun sits in my hair after summer’s headed home, and my feet, they carry me down the road, as my hips, they sway and I dance to a beat all my own. My spine, it stretches, curving, as I lay my body down. My arms hold me, not lonely though alone, Taking time, my fingers reach down slowly to the water’s edge. They draw invisible lines in the sand. I marvel how strong, how strong I am. My thoughts filter, float on by, down this lazy river. They’re moving right along, My breath fills me, bringing life. It joins me for a moment, before leaving with the wind to travel further on. My eyes, as I lay deep in thought, they reflect like water, grey-green-blue-brown, Full of secrets, secrets small but so deep I feel I might drown... but my heart, my heart, my heart forgives the summer heat and peace anchors as the sun goes down. and I feel what it is to feed and be fed, to protect and be protected, to hold and be held, to respect and respected, to love oh to love and be loved. One day, when I need it most but least expect it, I’ll hear this song a letter declaring my love to me.

about

Formed in 2019 and currently based in The Hague, the electro-acoustic duo Tiziano Teodori (electronics) and Annick Odom (bassist/singer/composer) seamlessly mix Appalachian folk songs, stories, and newly composed works to create an experimental world where nature thrives.

This first EP consists of four pieces originally recorded during a live stream gig in 2020. Two are songs composed by Annick, both inspired by water. There are also two improvisations, inspired by a folksong, a poem, and a saying that Annick learned from her favorite West Virginian ballad singer, the inimitable and unforgettable Phyllis Marks.
